The Grand Magistry

History

The Grand Master of the Order of Saint Lazarus has a governing role derived from that of the Master General or Abbot General of a religious order, which is what he was at the beginning of the Order’s history. In this, he is supported by members of the Order who are appointed to international management roles, with the title of Grand Officer; it is these who constitute the Grand Magistry.

Role

The Grand Magistry’s role is to enable, by means of good administration, the Grand Master to perform his own role, which is of working towards the Order’s three objectives of succouring the most deprived, helping to bring about the unity of Christians and maintaining the chivalric traditions and work for the development and prosperity of the Order.
